Funeral Home Financial Policies

My mother has a lot of money in investments, bonds etc. I have very little money. I found out she now has life insurance and no will. She will not even discuss setting things up. I am her only child and her husband who died had no children and left no will. I know when she dies I will not be able to touch any of her money.

I just wonder what I will do about her funeral expenses. I want to know if I will have to come up with the cash right away to pay for this. I have no idea how long it takes to go through probate court. I can't understand why she would want to put her only daughter through this. She was glad to collect money from her father but will not even discuss giving enough to pay for her funeral.

Sometimes I hope I die before her so I won't have to deal with this. I have insurance so my kids wouldn't have to go through this. Can you give me some advice?

The answer depends on the funeral home she deals with and their respective financial policy.--David R. Shirley
