How to Write a Resolution

How Do I Write a Resolution for a Member of Our Church?

By 'resolution' I hope you are referring to some type of eulogy, or tribute. A 'resolution' usually would come from the church council as a formal statement of the church or organization. ie: Be it known that sounds has completed suchandsuch in a timely and diligent manner; be it resolved that we the blahblahblah hereby proclaim that this was a good person.

There are some excellent resources available to help you put together some expressions of sympathy. Here are a couple of books that I would recommend:

Death Etiquette for the 90's, What to Do/What to Say by Johnette Hartnett  (Available at Amazon.com)

Goodnight Sweet Prince by William Schmidt  (Available at NFDA)

As for a eulogy, ask the immediate family and close friends of the person what their thoughts and experiences have been with that individual. Try to incorporate some of these stories and a few scripture verses into a speech to honor your church member/friend. Perhaps you might ask your pastor for some other tips in the crafting of a memorable speech about your friend.

Thanks -- Stephen Dawson
