| | | Frances Ruth Hoftiezer, 86, Rothschild, died Friday, March 28, 2008, following severe pneumonia, at her daughter's home in Galesville, Wis., where she had spent the winter.
She devoted her life to serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and in encouraging others to walk in His way.
Frances was born, the first child of Paul and Ethel Nulton, on June 24, 1921, in St. Croix Falls, Wis. She grew up in western Wisconsin, where her father was a Methodist preacher. She graduated from Elmwood High School, Elmwood, WI., in 1939 and from Stout College, Menomonie, WI., with a double major in Home Economics Education and Dietetics. After teaching two years in Deckerville, Mich., she qualified for a Dietetics internship at St. Lukes Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked before moving to Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Mn.
On June 14, 1949, she married Henry W. Hoftiezer in LaFarge, WI. They moved to Schofield in 1955 when he began working at Marathon Corp. Paper Mill. Henry died August 30, 2003.
While their children were growing up, Frances was a full-time homemaker, caring for her family and using her dietetic and home ec skills to improve their lives. From 1965 to 1972 she taught science in the Mosinee Middle School and she was the manager of the Music Department at Chrisian Bookstore in Wausau from 1978 to 1984.
Throughout her adult life Frances was involved in her community, church and evangelism. She and Henry were charter members of Highland Methodist Church, Rothschild, where she was active in the Women's Society, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She has supported overseas missions all of her adult life and participated in nine work teams to Mexico, Honduras, Kenya, Boliva and the Southwest United States. She served Child Evangelism Fellowship for over 30 years, holding Good News Club in her home and hosting summer Backyard Bible Clubs.
She was a member of Gideons International and took many opportunities to share a Testament with whom she had contact and was a founding member of the Marathon County Graduate Home Economist Club, in which she was still active.
Frances was a member of New Hope Community Church, Wausau, where she was actve in the Senior Citizens group and Bible Study.
Frances leaves her three children, Jeanne (Yuriy) Hansen, Madison, John (Sally) Hoftiezer, Columbus, Ohio, and Lois (John) Graf, Galesville; eight grandchildren, Peter and Sarah Hoftiezer and Elizabeth (Tony) Larson, Susanne, Philipp, Martha, Lydia and Markus Graf; a brother, Virgil Nulton, Ripon, WI.; sisters Mary (Ed) Schroeder, Sun Prarie, and Eunice (Don) Lawrence, Waupaca, and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Peter, died in 1975.
Funeral services will be held at New Hope Community Church, E1045 South County Road J, Wausau, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008, with Rev. Dan Eisner officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Rural Cemetery, Waupaca.
