LaVern E. Beam, 78, Rothschild, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, in the Palliative care Unit of St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.

He was born Feb. 16, 1928, to the late Roy and Olga (Barttelt) Beam. On Oct. 8, 1949, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hintz at Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau.

LaVern served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Paper in Rothschild, where he worked as a machine tender.

In his earlier years he was active on the ski patrol on Rib Mountain and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling and playing cards with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, three sons, David (Kay) Beam, Minneapolis; Robert (Rita) Beam, Marshfield; Chris (Tracy) Beam, Mosinee; one daughter, Kathryn (Mark) Silliven, Mt. Pleasant, MI.; 8 grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Mary Ann) Beam, Merrill; Russell (Barbara) Beam, Wausau; two sisters Jean Heideman, Ore. and Joyce Beam, Milwaukee.

LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Eugene Beam. and a brother, Ralph Beam.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Rothschild, with Rev. Richard Block officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home in Schofield, and again Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
