| | | Gertrude Kamke, 77, Schofield, died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by her family and Pastor Davidson.
She was born August 4, 1928, in Ironwood, Michigan, to the late Jacob and Hilda (Pesola) Wallenius. On October 25, 1947, she was married to Harlan Kamke at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schofield.
After graduating from high school in Ironwood Gertrude moved to Chicago, where she worked for the Air Force during WWII. After the war she moved to Schofield, where she met Harlan. She retired from J.C.Penny Co. as cash room clerk. She cherished the time with her grandchildren and loved working crossword puzzles, taking care of her flower garden, and watching TV, especially the game shows. Gertrude served on the election board in Schofield and also on the Altar Guild at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Holly (Roger) Binkowski, Weston; two grandchildren, Heather and Tyler Binkowski; two brothers, Arvo (Dorothy) Wallenius,
Eugene, OR., and Eugene (Antoinette) Wallenius, Ironwood, MI., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ruth Krajewski and one brother, Harold Wallenius.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1351 S. Grand Ave, Schofield. Pastor Walter Davidson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home, Schofield, and Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau.
