| | | George Gierczak, of Rothschild, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006 at his home. He was born on April 21, 1921 in Green Bay to the late Anton and Lucille (Murawski) Gierczak.
George married Evelyn L. Chappelle on August 12, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA at the Navy Chapel. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S.
Pocomoke and the U.S.S. Kerns and in the naval reserve for many years. After his service to his country, he worked for Wisconsin Public Service for 36 years at the Pulliam Plant and the Weston Power Plant.
George's life was his devotion and love for his family. He shared his love of the outdoors and nature with his family and instilled in each of his children a strong work ethic. His many interests were camping, hunting, gardening, golfing and many trips with Evelyn to Alaska. George was a charter member of St. Mark Parish and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn, four sons and five daughters, Marge (Don Stifler) Cabanski, Rothschild; Lyle (Lynda) Gierczak, Anchorage, AK.; Chris (Dale)Bendickson, Wausau; Allan (Nancy) Gierczak,Green Bay; Mary (John) Mohr, Farmington, MN.; Kathy (Bruce) Szarkowitz, Rothschild; Chuck (Paula) Gierczak, Rothschild; Joan (Gary) Husband, Naperville, IL.; Gary (Sheri) Gierczak, Kronenwetter; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas (Geri) Gierczak, Tony (Elsie) Gierczak, and Donald Gierczak, all of Green Bay and two sisters, Dorothy (Wally) Glinski, of Green Bay and Tess (Henry) Velasco, El Monte, Cal.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Lemerond, Mary and Margaret Gierczak, three brothers, Cliff, Ray and Joe and one son in law, Butch Cabanski.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the Church. The Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the St. Mark Endowment Trust Fund in George's memory.
