| | | Alan J. Lubbe, 78, Rothschild, died Monday, April 20, 2009, in the comfort of his home in the presence of his loving wife. He is preceded in death by two sisters Bernice Lubbe and Arlene Reis.
He was born on February 23, 1931, in Quincy, Ill. to the late Albert and Ada (Schutte) Lubbe . Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Halle) Lubbe, Quincy, Ill.; one brother, Norman (Rosemary) Lubbe, Quincy, Ill; three sons, Mike (Julie) Lubbe, Las Vegas, Jeff (Margaret) Lubbe, Mentor, Ohio, and Dave (Lynn) Lubbe, Burlington, N.J.; one daughter, Sharon (Paul) Baxter, New Berlin; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was married on September 6, 1958, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy, Ill to Phyllis Halle, and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2008.
Alan proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and would often belt out the Marines’ Hymn. He continued his devotion toward service as a member of the Everest Area Optimist Club, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and through his active participation at St. Mark Catholic Church where he was a longtime member of the choir. His children share many fond memories of his days as a Little League manager and his support for their numerous interests.
Alan is remembered by his family and friends as a devout Catholic, grounded in his faith and a true example of “living the Gospels”. He would be humbled at the mere mention of a summary of his community service. He was a carpenter and “handy-man”, sharing his talents and acting as a consultant for numerous projects for family, friends, and the community.
Prior to his retirement he was the owner/operator of Central Duplicating and Bartig Printing in Wausau.
In his most recent years he enjoyed visiting his children and their families (including pets.) His grandchildren gave him great joy, as he loved interacting with them and watching their many activities. They enjoyed his sense of humor and gentle nature.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone for all their prayers and acts of kindness, especially the cancer care unit at Marshfield Clinic – Weston Center, whose staff was both professional and loving, providing care centered on the dignity of the patient. They would also like to acknowledge the compassionate care administered by physicians Bart J. Isaacson, M.D. and Rezwan Islam, M.D.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Mark Catholic Church, Wausau Habitat for Humanity, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Rothschild. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to time of service today at the church.
