Edwin Kijek, 90,of Schofield, passed away on April 28, 2009 at Mountain View Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was well cared for. Edwin was born on August 27, 1918 to John and Helen (Nieslowski) Kijek in Schofield.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Michael Kijek; two brothers John C. Kijek and James Kijek.
Ed is survived by his wife Betty Kijek, Schofield; two sisters Dorris Thielke, Wausau, and Evelyn Marko, Denver CO; one niece and four nephews.
Ed was a Wisconsin boy through and through. He loved hunting, fishing and playing ice hockey with his brothers and sisters growing up in Schofield. He loved nothing better than making his own lures and fishing gear to cast his line in Lake Wausau. It was here on Pine Island that Ed was to build his home with his wife Betty.
During his service in the 135th Medical Regiment in WWII from 1941-1945, Ed met his wife-to-be, Betty Larsen from Brisbane Austrailia. While stationed in New Guinea his job was to transport wounded soldiers to Austrailia for treatment. Ed and Betty were married on June 16, 1945. Betty arrived in America on May 1, 1946. After Ed’s Army service, he graduated from University Stout in 1949 with his Bachelor’s degree in Science. He worked for the Wergin Co. of Wausau, then became the Business Representative for the Carpenter’s Locals covering the Wisconsin River Valley District. After retirement Ed was in “Fisherman’s Heaven”.
Service will be held Sunday May 3, 2009 at Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home at 1:00 pm . Visitation will start at 11am until the time of service.
