LaVerne Stepanik, 77, Schofield, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at home. She was born to Peter and Mary (Wentzka) Lake on May 25, 1931 in Rothschild.
LaVerne graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison with her Master’s Degree. In June of 1967 she was married to Walter Stepanik at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Rothschild.
She was a teacher at D.C. Everest High School for many years and has done alternative cancer research at the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield.
LaVerne enjoyed weekends up-north with Walt at their cottage, as well as traveling the states and Europe and Russia. She also enjoyed ice fishing in the winter.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her parents and one brother Clerence “Bud” Lake.
La Verne is survived by her husband Walter Stepanik, Schofield; sister-in-law Myra Lake, Mentor OH; special friend Sherry Kampo, Woodruff; and by nieces and nephews
Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday May 16, 2009 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Rothschild. There will be a visitation on Friday May 15, 2009 from 4pm to 8pm at Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home in Schofield. There will be a Rosary service at 7pm on Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 10am Saturday at the church until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Michaels Cemetery in Juntion City on Saturday after church as well.
