  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES
  SEND FLOWERS

Bess Vick and family would like to say thank you to all the people across the country who sent flowers, cards and phone calls. Your thoughts are very much appreciated at this time of grieving. Thank you.

James E. Vick, 88, Schofield passed away at Mt. View Nursing Home in the arms of his loving wife, Bess.

James worked as a millwright at Weyerhaeuser’s Rothschild Paper Mill and accumulated a “near-perfect” attendance record for 44 years until his retirement. As a union steward, he was an active participant in negotiations to protect worker interest’s and got to personally know most every worker of his era. After “retiring” from the mill, active projects and continuous planning were essential elements in working with Bess to provide group home living opportunities for many people through the years.

He was also the building inspector for the Town of Weston for 24 years. James was an active contributor to the Town of Weston’s Planning Commission and participated in the Town’s early development planning process. Always a keen observer of the area’s development activities, he enjoyed active conversation on a wide variety of current events.

James was a talented man, especially with wood and rock. His primary interest was to build and create. He built 17 homes for other people as well as countless projects that ranged from electrical work, plumbing and, of course, his most beloved wood working. There wasn’t a construction problem he couldn’t solve.

James also had many other interests beyond construction including rock collecting, aquarium and fish breeding, and of course plants. His love for all these interests were on display everywhere when you would visit him at his home. As an outdoor enthusiast, trips to the cottage and fishing with friends and family in Door County were always memorable events.

James was born to Henry Sr. and Mary (Spencer) Vick on May 13th 1921 in Stratford, WI. He married Bess Stratton on September 20, 1971 in Rockford IL. They resided in Schofield.

James is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Dennis, three brothers Carl, Henry, John; and six sisters, Mrytle (Weldele), Hazel (Guenther), Esther (Fuller), Harriet, Marguerite (Ellison), Eleanor (Reckner).

He is survived by his wife Bess, Schofield; three sons, David Vick Sr., Thomas Vick and Gerard (Jill) Vick, all of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Mary Clare (Roger) Strom, Plymouth MN three step-sons, Ralph McNutt, Schofield and Rolly (Cindy) Lockre, Santa Barbara, CA and Rick (Wanda) in Kentucky; one step-daughter, Gwen (Rodney) Means, Tuscon, AZ; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Wed. June 17th at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church on Weston Ave. in Schofield, at 11 am. Visitation will start at 9 am until the time of service at 11a. Entombment will be held at Restlawn Cemetery at 1 pm following lunch.
