Athelene G. Sickler
Athelene Gladys Sickler, 82, of Ringle, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009. Athelene was a great wife, daughter, sister, mother, friend, and the best grandmother that anyone could have asked for.
Athelene's life began on April 27, 1927, in Los Angeles. In 1937 Athelene's family moved to Wisconsin. She wed Jack Sickler on April 15, 1944.
Athelene and Jack started their life together and soon came their first child, Peggy. Later came Ricky and Becky Jo. Athelene spent her life as a homemaker, caring for her family, and working on their farm. She always put her children before herself. Later, they started a home-based business called "Happy Trails Hay and Sleigh Rides." Everyone would remember the sounds of the song "Happy Trails to You" as they visited the family farm.
Athelene's passions were Christmas and her "tree," caring for children with special needs, helping our family grow, and spoiling her grandchildren. She always had a freezer full of ice cream bars for every kid in the neighborhood. She also enjoyed her "Happy Trails Haunted House" at Halloween and spending as much time as she could at the WWER Clubhouse with friends and family.
Athelene Is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack Sickler, Ringle; her daughters, Becky Jo Sickler, Ringle, and Peggy (Russell) Harsch, Chilton; and her son, Ricky (Lois) Sickler, Rhinelander. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Fawn Wojcik, Ringle, Tammy (Jim) Hemmen, Aly and Cassy, Appleton, Craig (Kari) Harsch, Max and Gracie of Reedsburg, Chad (Carrie) Sickler, Jake and Jordyn of Wausau, and Stacey (Brandon) Baker, Lexey and Ellie of Minocqua; her "adopted" grandson, Michael Strayer of Ringle; and her newest little friend, C,J., whom she adored.
In addition, she is survived by one sister, Betty Burns, Schofield; and two brothers, Gerry (Ina) Prichard, Hartford, and Bud Prichard, Escanaba, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Willie Marten and Shirley Sickler; many nieces and nephews that lovingly called her "Auntie;" and her life-long friend, Virgie.
Athelene was preceded in death by her parents, Ella Prichard Malitz and Chester Prichard; her stepfather, Fritz Malitz; four brothers-in-Iaw and two sisters-in-Iaw.
There will be a celebration of life from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at the Ringle Town Hall. Family and friends are invited to share their wonderful memories of Athelene and enjoy a supper.
Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society assisted the family.
