Joseph Peter Falkowski's family is announcing their loved one's passing Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.
Joe was born July 17, 1920, to Anton and Katherine (Olinski) Falkowski. He married Sylvia R. Kaminski on Aug. 18, 1941. They had a very spirited affection, devotion and love for one another for 68 years. They lived in homes built by Joe in the Rothschild and Weston area most of their married years. Joe, like his father, worked at the Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill. Joe worked in the finishing room for 41 years and made many lifelong friends, retiring in 1983.
He and his family spent many, many happy times at their cottage in Springstead for 31 years, swimming, water skiing and fishing. Joe loved spending time with his girls. They went to Wyoming and Montana to hunt elk and mule deer, and also took vacations to see most of the United States, They especially loved Las Vegas. Joe loved being outside working, planting trees, or watching the wildlife. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to fix or build any project for his family. Every holiday, the family could not wait for his famous homemade potato sausage. He lived life to the fullest and had a knack for making each member of the family feel special, secure and safe.
He leaves behind his wife, Sylvia; his kitty, Sassy; and his three daughters, Audre (Ray) Hanson, Weston, Sandra (Larry) Burns, Kronenwetter, and Mary Joe Falkowski, Marathon; his grandson, Jason Burns, Kronenwetter; and one great-granddaughter, Brookelyn Mia Burns, Kronenwetter; his brothers John and Edward Falkowski of Rothschild; his sister Lillian (Robert) Buchholz, Boulder Junction; and many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Stanley (Mary) Falkowski; one sister, Anne (Max) Mullen; and sisters-in-law, Betty Jeanne Falkowski and Betty Jane Falkowski.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the Solemn High Mass on Tuesday at the church.
The family thanks the management and staff at Cedar Creek Manor for the loving care given to Smokey, and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their compassionate support and Smokey's comfort.
Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home, Schofield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
