Helen L. Brown, 92, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff McPheron officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa.

Born July 18, 1916, in Washington County, IA, Helen Louise was the daughter of Joseph William and Iva Ann (Wallace) Martin. She received her education from the Washington School System.

On February 18, 1939, she married Leonard Brown in Washington, IA. Helen was a farm wife for 36 years near Glasgow. She was a member of the Glasgow Methodist Church. In 1975, the couple moved to Mt. Pleasant. Following the death of her husband in 2005, Helen moved to Dallas Center to be near her children. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Helen liked to sew, embroidery, and garden.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris (Burton) Shellabarger of Woodward, IA; two sons, William Wayne (Betty) Brown of Des Moines, IA, and Wendell Brown of Plant City, FL; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Ruth Carr and Bessie Robbins, both of Washington, IA.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; two sisters, Jean Dunbar and Florence Jackson; and two brothers, Floyd Martin and Earl Martin.
