Family Will Receive Friends

Loren G. Herreid, 59, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at his home.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. According to his wishes Mr. Herreid has been cremated and there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Middle School library or the Mt. Pleasant Public Library.

The son of Lynn and Martha Miller Herreid, Loren Glenn was born on July 21, 1950, in Luverne, MN. He grew up in Worthington, MN, and was a 1969 graduate of Worthington High School. Loren received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in 1974. Following graduation, he moved to Mt. Pleasant. On June 19, 1976, he married Kathleen A. Kishel in Virginia, MN. She survives.

For 34 years Loren was a librarian at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School where he spent the last six years of his career teaching computer skills to the students as well. He retired in the spring of 2008. Loren was a member of the Mount Pleasant Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, and the National Education Association.

A true family man, Loren placed his family above himself and supported his wife and children in all of their activities. He loved reading, considered all types of books as treasures, and spent many hours wandering through book stores. He was a book collector. Loren liked being outdoors and enjoyed gardening. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan.

Along with his wife, Kathleen, Loren is survived by a son, Alex Herreid of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Anna Herreid of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Ron Herreid of Brooklyn, NY; and a sister, Diane (Joe) Murphy of Atlanta, GA.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents.
