  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Shirley J, (Lambert) Meacham, 74 of Burlington, passed away into God’s great care on Monday, July 5, 2004 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care.

She was born on April 9, 1930 in Wolcott, the daughter of the late Donald and Dorotha (Allen) Lambert.

Shirley graduated from Burlington High School with honors in merchandising and from Burlington Business College. She had been employed with VT Hardware and retired from the Tribunal Office of the Catholic Diocese of VT after 23 years of service.

Shirley was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish where she was a lay reader and actively served on their parish council. She served as VT State Director of Camp Fire Girl’s, secretary of the Eldoes-Elk’s Lodge 916, Regent Sancta Maria Circle and State Regent of Daughters of Isabella, President of VT Church Women United, President of VT Council of Catholic Women, VT Catholic Family Fellowship and VT Catholic Golden Age.

Shirley was love personified, she was devoted to God from childhood, devoted to her beloved husband, Paul, with whom she lived a true “love story” as his soul-mate, they danced, sang, laughed, worked and raised their children together as eternal-partners. She cherished each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as gifts from God. She is beloved by all who knew her as a relative and as a caring dear friend. Her beautiful voice entertained us always. Each person in her life will remember her affection for them, as she followed God’s word and loved us all eternally and we will love her eternally as well. Thank you Shirley for being You.

Shirley is beloved and survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul W. Meacham, Sr. of Burlington; their children and their spouses, Judith M. and Darryl Knutson of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada, Paul W. Jr. and Barbara of Burlington, and Sharon M. and Thomas Barry III of South Burlington; her precious grandchildren, , Paul W. Meacham III and wife, Margaret, of New Haven, Shannon M. Barry and Thomas H. Barry IV of South Burlington; and darling great-grandchildren, Ashley E. Meacham and Ethan P. Meacham of New Haven; her dear sisters and spouses, Vivian and Dwight Johnson of Walnut Creek, CA and Dawn and Darwin Harrington of Montgomery Center; her dear brother, William L. Lambert of Milton; many nieces and nephews of which include a special nephew and his wife, Dan and Jean Knutson; aunts, Gertrude Hearst and Hazel Allen, both of Wolcott. Shirley was also predeceased by her sweet sister, Ann Barr and her husband, John Barr, her mother and father-in-law, Elizabeth and Daniel Meacham, and her sisters-in-law, Elenor M. Lawrence and Melba M. Rivers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat. July 10, 2004 at 11:00am in St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to VT Catholic Charities, 351 North Ave., Burlington, VT 05401.
