| | | Eleanor June (O'Neill) Allison, age 82, formerly of Chilton, Wisconsin, died Nov. 28, 2007, at the Lynn Care Nursing Home in Front Royal, Virginia. She had been residing with her son Michael and his wife Doris at their home in Maurertown, Virginia since August of 2006, following the death of her husband Lute.
She was born January 25, 1925 in Waldo, Kansas, the daughter of the late Samuel P. and Hazel (Maud) O'Neill.
She graduated with honors, as the Valedictorian, from Waldo High School in 1943.
Eleanor married Lute P. Allison December 13, 1943 at the Amherst Church, near Waldo, Kansas. She was the organist at this church, pastored by Rev. John P. Allison, Lute's father.
Eleanor and Lute lived in Denver, Colorado, Pocatello and Twin Falls, Idaho before moving to Chilton, Wisconsin in 1954, where they resided until 2004. They resided in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to be near their son Samuel and his wife Susan and family, from 2004 until August of 2006.
Eleanor, in addition to being a mother and home maker, was the organist and pianist at the Ebenezer UCC in Chilton for many years, and she also worked as an assistant librarian at the Chilton Public Library later in life.
She had a passion for books and reading, especially about nature and the natural world, but her eclectic tastes also included history and science fiction. She was an accomplished classical pianist, both for pleasure and as a teacher. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers and did not miss a game; either live or televised, until her death.
Her many interest included oil painting, knitting, baking, gardening and bird watching. She and Lute took many fly-in canoe trips to Canada and the boundary waters of Minnesota where they enjoyed camping and fishing (she many times catching the biggest fish). She also volunteered to do census work concerning migratory birds passing thru Wisconsin. She loved all animals, both wild and domesticated, especially cats.
She will be truly missed by her family and loved ones, and her cat, Isabell who was her constant companion during the last year of her life.
She is survived by 3 children: D. Michael Allison and his wife Doris Allison of Maurertown, VA, A. Porter O'Neill of Madison, Wisconsin and Roberta J. Allison of Toms Brook, VA. Also survived by beloved Nieces, Nephews and Cousin Betty (O'Neill) Pingle of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her dearest friend Dorothy Ricker (and husband Ray) of Chilton.
