| | | Sylvester H. Berchem, age 91, of Chilton, died on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the Chilton Care Center in Chilton. He was born April 13, 1916 in Calumet County son of the late Henry & Jenny (Jensen) Berchem. He married Lillian M. Thiel on October 30, 1945 at St. John Catholic Church in St. John. Sylvester and Lillian lived in Brillion from 1945-1951. In August of 1951 they moved to their farm on Faro Springs Road where he and his wife farmed for 53 years. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2004. Sylvester was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert, the Holy Name Society, and an officer for many years of Equity Livestock Co-op. He was an avid football fan who enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and his grandchildren play the game. He also enjoyed playing cards, but most of all loved being on the farm, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children: Keith (Barbara) Berchem of Hilbert and Rose Mary (Gary) Schaefer of Hilbert; 8 grandchildren: Vicki (Jason) Csida of Darboy, Christine (Peter B.) Goetsch of Chilton, Kimberlee (Jason) Ebben of Appleton, Eric Berchem of Kaukauna, Holly (Alan) Plate of Hilbert, Kevin (Wanda) Schaefer of Hilbert, Tim Schaefer of Hilbert, and Dan Schaefer of Hilbert; 6 great-grandchildren: Ryan Csida, Conner Goetsch, Lilly & Bau Schaefer, and Makayla & Brady Plate; 1 brother, Alyoisius (June) Berchem; sisters-in-law: Esther Martin, Eleanor Thiel, Sr. Rosilda Thiel, and Mary Lou Thiel; and brother-in-law, Robert Schwabenlander. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 8, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W Main St., Chilton) from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 7, 2008.
