Jay W. Atherton, age 58, of Chilton died on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at his home. He was born July 26, 1950 in Mayville, IL, son of the late Harry & Lora (Rice) Atherton. Jay married Sue Hamblen on December 13, 1980 in Milwaukee. Jay was on the forefront of servicing computers while he lived and worked in the Milwaukee area. He eventually spread his business to be nation wide and was an important part of the installation of computer systems in McDonalds throughout the nation. Jay enjoyed watching football and baseball, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and belonged to Walleyes Unlimited. He also loved to share his passion of fishing with kids by teaching them how to fish in a responsible manner. Survivors include his wife, Sue; children: Brian (Kim) Nies of Milwaukee, Robert (Amanda) Nies of Australia, Eric (Jess) Nies of Chilton; 5 grandchildren: Tyler, Nathan, Mikel, Madison, & Melanie Nies; 2 sisters: Lora (Art) Prueser of Villa Park, IL, Edie (Bob) Scheiwe of Bartlet, IL; and a brother: Ed (Paula) Atherton of Forest Park, IL. Jay was preceded in death by his parents; 2 uncles: Bill & Charlie; and his beloved dog, Bandit. Funeral service will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 when the service will be held. Memorials made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Jay Atherton are appreciated.
