Lillian M. Berchem, age 83, of W2746 Faro Springs Rd. Hilbert, died on Tuesday June 1, 2004 at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. She was born on June 26, 1920 in St. John daughter of the late Peter and Rose Margaret (Meier) Thiel. She married Sylvester Berchem on October 30, 1945 at St. John Catholic Church in St John. They lived in Brillion from 1945-1951. In August of 1951 she moved to their farm on Faro Springs Road where she and her husband lived and farmed for 53 years. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert, a member of the Christian Mothers for over 50 years, the Chilton Mission Society, taught CCD for 21 years, and a member of the Catholic Rural Life Organization. She also volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul in Hilbert, was a foster parent, an avid gardener, loved farming, chickens, quilting, and embroidery, was a wonderful cook and most of all loved her children and grandchildren, and through it all it always seemed she lived for her favorite holiday Christmas. She is survived by her husband Sylvester of Hilbert, two children; Rose Mary (Gary) Schaefer of Hilbert, and Keith (Barbara) Berchem of Hilbert, 8 grandchildren; Vicki (Jason) Csida of Paris, TX, Christine Berchem and special friend Peter B. Goetsch of New Holstein, Kimberlee Berchem and fiancé Jason Ebben of Appleton, Eric Berchem of Darboy, Holly Schaefer and fiancé Alan Plate of Hilbert, Kevin Schaefer and special friend Denise Napparalla of Menominee, Tim Schaefer of Hilbert, and Dan Schaefer of Hilbert, 3 sisters; Esther (Ken) Martin of Menasha, Eleanor Thiel of Chilton, Sr. Rosilda Thiel of Sun Prairie, a brother Ronald (Mary Lou) Thiel of Sherwood, two brothers-in-law Robert Schwabenlander of New Frankin, Al (June) Berchem of Milwaukee, and a sister-in-law Francis Thiel of Brillion. She was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister Armella Schwabenlander, and a brother Ermin Thiel. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Saturday June 5, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Rallen Stencil officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton, 411 W. Main St, from 4:30 to 8 PM. A parish prayer service will be held on Friday evening at the funeral home.
