| | | The Rev. Albert K. Borns passed away gently on Sunday February 13, 2005 following surgery at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Albert had been residing most recently with his son, Mark and family in Ridgetop, TN. Born in Iron River, MI on April 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Henry and Agnes (Christensen) Borns. Albert attended grade school and graduated from Iron River High School in 1946. After feeling God’s call to ministry, he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. He further prepared for ministry at North Park College and Theological Seminary in Chicago. Albert was ordained into Christian ministry on June 27, 1956, while serving as pastor of First Covenant Church in Gladstone, MI. On October 6, 1956 he was joined in marriage to the former Ruth Marie Anderson in Marinette, WI. She preceded him in death on November 17, 1985. In June of 1962, Albert received a Master of Arts Degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. A second Master of Arts in English Literature was earned at Northern Michigan University in July of 1964. He went on to complete his doctoral degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. Serving as both a pastor and a professor, Albert taught at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh; Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, MI; the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point; and Lakeshore Technical College, Cleveland, WI. Rev. Borns served congregations in Pembine, Dunbar, Crivitz, Oshkosh, New Holstein, and Chilton, WI. He also served churches in Gladstone and Ironwood, MI. In July of 2002, the honor of Pastor Emeritus was bestowed upon him by the congregation of St. John UCC of New Holstein, WI. Albert was a very gifted musician who was completely self-taught. He used his God-given gifts in many ways, including accompanying many soloists and musicians and directing various choirs throughout his life. He had a great passion for music, especially the great Gospel music which proclaims the salvation story. Albert is survived by one son: Mark (Tammy) Borns of Ridgetop, TN; 2 daughters: Rev. Kris Lyn Borns of Kiel, WI and Tara (Ray) Swinson of Fond du Lac, WI; 5 grandchildren: Christopher, Albert, Kara, Emily, Allison and Shelby; on sister: Lois Borns of Iron River, MI; and his mother-in-law: Ruth (Anderson) Kollross of Stephenson, MI. He is further survived by a sister-in-law: Betsy Evans of Houston, TX; 2 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rev. Charles (Shirley) Anderson of Mears, MI, and David (Vicky) Anderson of Wallace, MI and his faithful companion, “Snookie”, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, fellow clergy and many friends. A celebration of Life for the Rev. Albert K. Borns will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday February 20, 2005 at St. John UCC in New Holstein, WI. The Rev. Charles H. Anderson and the Rev. James Werner will officiate. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 PM until the time of services. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in the New Holstein Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in the name of Rev. Albert K. Borns. Wieting Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
