LaVerne R. Brocker age 86, formerly of Rural Kiel died on Wednesday March 30, 2005 at Chilton Care Center in Chilton. She was Born December 24, 1918 in New Holstein, daughter of the late Joseph & Emma (Wick) Schmitz. She attended St. Anna Catholic School and Kiel High School. LaVerne married Elmer Brocker on January 22, 1938 in Chilton. He preceded her in death in 1973. She was a homemaker and was employed at Leverenz Shoe Company in Valders for 27 years. LaVerne was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. LaVerne was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and since her retirement, she enjoyed watching & feeding her outdoor birds, painting landscapes, decorating gourds, watching her daily “soap”, doing crossword puzzles and visiting with her friends and neighbors. Survivors include her children: Rogene (Martin) Biese of rural New Holstein, Stan (Nancy) Brocker of rural Kiel, Nancy (Jim) Halstrom of Wilmington, NC; 9 grandchildren: Rick (Tina) Roulette of Manitowoc, Randall (Cassie) Roulette of Florida, Robyn (Scott) Popp of Arizona, Ann Biese & Mitch Sterling of Sturgeon Bay, Tom Biese of rural New Holstein, Todd Brocker and special friend Sue of Kiel, Tammy (Mark) Lechler of rural New Holstein, Tohnya (Dave) Teske of Kiel, Troy Brocker of rural Kiel; 15 great grandchildren: 1 great, great grandchild; a sister-in-law: Alice Schmitz of rural Elkhart Lake; and 2 brothers-in-law: Joe Schneider of rural Kiel and Roger Blonigan of Fond du Lac. LaVerne is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by 5 sisters: Eleanore, Julie, Valeria, Emily & Irene; and 4 brothers: Leo, Lee, Jerome, and infant brother Ervin. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on April 2, 2005 at St. Gregory Catholic Church (212 Church St.) in St. Nazianz with the Rev. Gregory Coulthard officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9 – 11:00 AM on April 2, 2005 when services will be held. A memorial fund has been established in the name of LaVerne R. Brocker. The family would like to thank Dr. Bockhorn, and the entire staff at the Chilton Care Center for their loving care and being a dear friend to LaVerne. Wieting Family Funeral Home in Kiel is assisting the family with arrangements.
